Google Behind Your Wheels!

Android Auto GPS

Google recently unveiled a much awaited piece of innovation – Android Auto. This new feature where a user will have Google in their car’s dashboard was announced In the Google I/O conference last Wednesday. This means we’ll see Google cars on the road navigating and entertaining you a lot sooner than it was expected.

What’s in store for you? Your car’s dashboard will turn into a system that not only plays the music of your choice, but also checks traffic conditions and helps in navigation – all this by a voice interface. What’s the difference from other similar features? This system is Android device friendly which is the most popular and widely used interface on this planet. Wondering what will happen to the communications? Well, you can also receive and send text messages while driving via voice control. All these summed up means that you have a distraction free driving experience!

At the conference, Google also showed a quick demo about how the system would work. Though it was majorly around showing how the voice system works, the demo was quite impressive and informational. The internet giant also announced the launch of Android Auto SDK with a full set of audio and messaging application APIs.

Earlier this year when Android L was announced, tech gurus and industry specialists have been talking a lot about it. Android Auto is a fully integrated application which is contextually aware. So, it would know when you’re in the car and also tracks a record of your driving habits and music choices. It updates itself whenever the apps stored in your phone get an update. The connection of your phone and the car is not wireless which is in a way a good thing as the driver would have to put the phone down. As it is clearly seen, safety appears to be a major area of focus for Google.

In the conference, Google also stated that car manufactures like Ford, Audi, Chevrolet, Acura and many more will have Android Auto. This news wasn’t a shock for many anticipated users. Google had already hinted this in a news event in January when it started the Open Automotive Alliance – a joint effort by tech and automotive companies to bring safer technology cars.

There is no specific date for Android Auto’s launch. However, we can expect to see cars coming out with this new feature by the end of this year.
