They say that when it comes to technology and innovation, nobody can quite beat the Japanese. And this time, the new innovative technology that Japanese car-maker, Nissan has come up with is sure to make car washing an extinct chore soon.

Nissan engineers are reported to be testing on certain formulations of nano-paint technology that is said to repel dirt even before it can take hold onto the paintwork of the car. Nissan has announced that the first car that would be using this special nano-paint technology on its exteriors would be the Nissan Note, which is currently in the trial phase. Nissan released a photograph that showed the testing of the car where half the car coated with the special new nano-paint and the other half uncoated. And the results, from what we see and believe, were mind blowing.

The new technology from Nissan could banish dirt and stains to form and accumulate on the car, thus ruling out the need to keep taking the car to the car wash or washing it yourself, thus helping you save time and money. The technology is being tested on the Nissan Note in Sunderland, UK.

Though Nissan has not yet commented regarding the potential cost of the self-cleaning paint on the car, it could be estimated to be somewhere $750, falling somewhere close to the price of choosing a metallic paint for your car. The new paint repels mud, rain and everyday dirt, meaning drivers can say goodbye to car washes and would never have to clean their car ever again!

The paint has attributes of being ‘super-hydrophobic’ as well as ‘oleo phobic’ meaning that it repels water as well as oil and it has been trademarked under the name of Ultra-Ever Dry. The paint works by creating a protective layer of air between the paint and the environment, thereby effective stopping standing water and road sprays from creating the dirt marks on the car’s exterior surface.

Nissan specifically chose Nissan Note to carry out trials of the Ultra-Ever Dry as it comes with a unique ‘wash and blow dry’ feature on the rear view camera. This feature keeps the lens of the camera free from dirt, thanks to water and compressed air, thus ensuring that the safety sensors of the Note work perfectly no matter how the weather is. Moreover, Nissan Note was born with an aim to reduce the stress in customer driving and the Nissan engineers seem to be definitely coming up with new ideas to do just that.

As of now, the car washes can stay since the paint is still in the testing phase. Nissan itself doesn’t have plans to make the technology public just yet. However, at a later stage, the paint could be a great aftermarket option for sure. Well, all we can see is ‘wait and watch’!
