Safe driving

The debate which has been going on for years now – which is safe for driving? A car with a manual or automatic transmission. If you search over the internet, you’ll get loads of information about it with people all over the globe explaining their point of view. Some say manual transmission is safer and has better control along with giving higher gas mileage. Well, is mileage the only factor?

12-28-2013 3-21-02 PMIf you ask someone who drives an automatic transmission car, he/she will say that a stick shift requires too much concentration from the driver and is also distracts you from driving.  Given the fact that automatic transmission cars are easy to handle as you don’t have to think much about shifting gears. However, there are different opinions both ways about which transmission is safer.

To a certain extent it is also true that modern automatics make the manual transmission outdated, solely because the former is really good with gadgets, sensors and also give you an excellent driving experience. These things are good, but there’s a cost attached to it. Automatic transmission is not what an average car would have.

12-28-2013 3-29-44 PMWhile driving a manual transmission, the driver would be engaged in shifting which prevents him/her not to do any other thing while driving. Although many people still do multi tasking while shifting. For this, it is said if its automatic then the driver would have much more time to focus. Even if its automatic, one can’t resist doing multi tasking. Instances have occurred when there have been accidents while people drive and talk over the phone.

12-28-2013 3-29-35 PMHaving said that, which transmission will be good would depend on the individual who is driving. It all depends on his/her comfort and how he/she wants to drive. Many people want to drive hassle free, so they buy cars with automatic transmission. Even though in this advanced world, where everything is transforming so quickly, people are shifting to more automated ways of living. However, when it comes to driving cars, it would be difficult to cut out manual transmissions. In various countries, where roads are narrow, people still prefer manual over automatic.

Using an automatic transmission car would definitely be a thing of ease as you can focus on the road and what not. However, it is also argued that people also engage in other activities (common one being, talking on cell phone). But talking on the phone is not the only criteria to choose a car with automatic transmission. Safety is a primary issue which has been a topic of discussion for years.

So, both systems have their set of pros and cons, manual is desirable for the driving fans and is more controllable. On the other hand, automatic is many a times economical as well. At the end, it depends on what people want and the fact that manufacturers are coming up with more automatic models, it is quite evident what people want to drive.
